First, let’s understand the average cost of a project
Segment1 : Decent
Clean and functional designs, built with quality materials. This category is perfect for individuals looking for interiors that are simple and practical.
Estimated cost per sq feet: RM90/sf
Segment 2 : Touch of aesthetics
That 60 Ringgit bump offers you aesthetic, durability, and functionality. It also allows you to customise your room with entry-level designer products along with extra detailing work on the materials.
Estimated cost per sq feet: RM150/sf
Segment 3 : Craftsmanship
Segment 4 : Crème de la crème
Think of this as the most premium option where only the sky is the limit, specifically made for individuals that want something extraordinary. You can even explore different design concepts every five years, or whenever you want.
Estimated cost per sq feet: RM400/ sf and above
Now, for the calculations. It is fairly easy once you have understood the categories and your needs. There are two ways around it:
1. Make the total sq. ft. of your home and multiply it with the category of your choice
2. Mix and match the categories you want for each room, then you take the total sq. ft. of the room and multiply it with the category you picked
Now let’s take Mr Lee’s 3,500 sq. ft. Semi-D as an example. If he decided to go with option A, the calculation is as follow:
Craftsmanship x Semi-D 3,500 sq.ft
RM240 x 3,500 sq ft
= RM840,000
So the total estimated budget for Mr Lee to revamp his Semi-D with Craftsmanship designs is RM840,000
For option B, the calculation is as follow:
Craftsmanship x total sq.ft of dry & wet kitchen
RM240 x 800 sq ft
= RM120,000
Customised x total sq.ft of study room
RM150 x 100 sq ft
= RM15,000
Craftsmanship x total sq.ft of master bedroom & bathroom
RM240 x 300 sq ft
= RM720,000
Customised x total sq.ft of the rest of the house
RM150 x 1,900 sq ft
= RM285,000
So the total estimated budget for Mr Lee to revamp his Semi-D with a misture of Craftsmanship and Customised designs is RM564,000
*The above example is only for the interior architecture design and build on current structure. It also includes renovation work like built in cabinetry, ceiling, wetworks, plumbing, M&E, furnishing, fittings and electrical appliances.
