Hock Seng, formerly the Head of Sales and National Sales Manager in the FMCG industry; now, the CEO of Arch & In.D, a premium interior design and construction firm.

He has always had a strong passion and interest in interior design, which resulted in him leaving his corporate career of more than 13 years to pursue his dream.

Years in corporate has given Hock Seng the opportunity to take up various roles which contributed to his experiences and exposures in the toy and research industry while working with multinational and local distributors for various brands.

With strong business acumen and passion, Hock Seng has led his team at Arch & In.D to design and build more than 300 projects, both big and small during the past 14 years.

They have now expanded Arch & In.D and formed an interior design platform called Panache – a space where freelance interior designers and boutique firms can collaborate and further improve their businesses. It will be a consortium of interior designers, suppliers, and builders.

Pain Points Of A Home Owner

  1. Afraid of being cheated
    – Abandoned halfway through the project
    – The final build doesn’t match the visuals
  2. High markup by the designers
  3. Back and forth with the designers a couple of times, but I am still unsure of what I want
  4. Have to chase the designers or contractors to finish up their work

Making The Most Of My Money

  1. Prioritising your wants and needs
Start with the highest wear and tear in the house:
    – Kitchen
    – Master Bedroom and bathroom
    – Study room
    – Living room
  2. Ignoring Your Designer
Trust your Interior Designer. A good ID will think of everything for you including the air you breathe in. Online sources like Pinterest, Behance, and Archidaily are great for references but at the end of the day, they are only references. Everyone has their own taste in design, don’t focus too much on your reference because nothing is set in stone. Most references will show an angle of a design. Interior Designer looks at the overall perspective from macro to micro. A good ID will also know how to source for great products to suit the design.
    Being insistent might cause:
    – Confusion
    – Disappointments
    – Lack of sleep
    – More time and cost incurred
  3. Flow
A well-designed home has what architects and interior designers called, “flow.” A flow is where everything makes sense and moves with ease. From the front door to the living room, dining room, kitchen, and bedroom. Together, they form a harmonious and balanced surrounding where you and your loved ones can stay comfortably.
